Cons

  • A bit above many people’s price range

Makita is a recognised manufacturer of high quality power tools. They are usually at the high-end of the price range which is why many only use Makita for a one-off purchase, which may well be all you need. When you first get your hands on the LXDT01 and spend a few days putting it through its paces (or ‘playing with your toys’ as your wife might say!), it won’t take you long to realize that you want one of them all for yourself. Read our Makita LXDT01 review below for more information.

The LXDT01 is compact, lightweight and has a long battery life. It also packs a heck of a punch. Quite a few folks that use this model for automotive work, using it to break or to fasten lug nuts. You can use it for large scale renovations and any time you are working with dense wood, long fasteners etc. A lot of this work your basic cordless drill is just about able to manage, so you may be in the habit of using it the whole time, but when if you switched to this impact driver you might find you are getting the work done much easier and much quicker. This is done to the speed of the brushless motor and the huge torque (up to 1460 in-lbs) – this girl drives like a hot drill through butter.

The long lasting battery life is where the LXDT01 really stands head and shoulders above its competitors. For an impact driver that works so hard and provides so much torque, it makes it seem effortless. The motor doesn’t quit, and the batteries won’t die for a long long time. You can get practically a day’s work done, then charge the batteries up ready to start again in the morning. And if you need it charged in a hurry – well the charger will have the batteries ready to go in just 30 mins.

It has 3 torque settings, and the soft one you can use for driving into drywall without any issues.  With a variable trigger, she can work just as slow or as fast as you need to go – so don’t think this drill is too powerful for careful jobs, because she can take her time if needs be. You can take off wall plates without causing any damage.

Makita LXDT01 Review: It’s definitely at the high-end of the price range, so it’s understand if you wanted to find something a little cheaper (check out our comparison table), but this drill should more than pay for itself in time saved and through the quality of the work done. It’s versatile and there are more than enough 1/4 inch hex bit accessories available. It’s tough enough that you’re not going to need a replacement for a good long time.
