Cuts Through Variety of Wood All Day

Whilst understandably not as powerful as a corded circular saw, the DeWalt DC390B still has an impressive level of power when compared to many of it’s competitors. The 6-1/2″ blade and 18V will cut through all 2 by dimensional lumber of a whole host of different shapes and sizes. You’ll be able to cross cut and rip 2 x 12 material all day, for example, or easily cut through 3/4″ pine plywood.

Takes Ni-Cad or Lithium Ion Batteries

The DC390B takes both the main type of batteries, so you will be able to use whichever ones you prefer. Two 18V Ni-Cads will keep you working all day, switching them back and forth on the charger every hour or so. Using the Lithium Ion you may be surprised at how much work you can get out of a single battery charge. It’s worth noting that thick, long rips tend to drain the battery much quicker. If you are working on a small job that will last the battery length, that is when you will really notice the benefit of a good cordless circular saw. You are able to concentrate on the cut without having to worry about where the cord is etc.

Easy to Use and Clean Cuts

The saw is strong and cuts well, as you would expect from a DeWalt. Even so, you can improve the cut if you upgrade the 16 tooth blade with a new 24 tooth or even a 40 tooth blade to really get the best out of this saw. The blade is easily changed with the allen key (included with saw). It’s very easy to use and has excellent visibility for an accurate, clean cut. It’s a nice, comfortable weight, easy to handle and gives very little kickback. It may not cut as much or as quickly as some of the bigger, corded saws out there, but it still gets the job done very well. The key is to let the blade do all the work – don’t try to force through the cut at a quicker rate than is natural. Perfect for small home jobs and cutting short rough cuts, but not for professional level volume cutting.

Peace of Mind

You will feel safe knowing that this circular saw has a three year limited warranty covering any problems due to poor workmanship or faulty materials. It’s also covered by DeWalt’s one-year free service contract, where DeWalt will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use–for free. So you can feel confident to get it out of the box and really give it a go.

All in all, our DeWalt DC390B review finds that this is a must for trim and other short cuts were you don’t need the heavy duty power offered by a corded saw. Ideal for the home hobbyist looking to increase their portability!
